This is the third in a series of neighborhood profiles of Chicago to inspire MPP-dwellers to break out of the Booth bubble and explore the variety that the city has to offer. Each profile features recommendations from Booth students who live in the area on the best places to eat, drink, study and more!

Where to Eat: Yuzu Sushi & Robata Grill is a small, affordable, BYOB sushi spot that plays a hip-hop soundtrack-- a fellow Boothie says it is, “Arguably THE BEST sushi in Chicago. “ Carbon Live Fire Mexican Grill has “addictive burritos,” and Chicagoist ranked the restaurant’s Tortilla Encrusted Tilapia Burrito one of the “10 Best Burritos in Chicago.” Veneno de Nayarit is another favorite for Mexican food, with affordable seafood dishes and great margaritas.

Where to Study: Asado Coffee Roasters, founded in 2009, was the first coffee shop in Chicago to exclusively serve individually prepared cups of pour over coffee. The Ugly Mug Café, as its name suggests, serves your coffee in a very ugly mug and also offers a breakfast and lunch menu. Dark Matter Coffee, one of three locations in the city, has its roastery and espresso bar in the neighborhood, offering a Northern Italian inspired espresso blend called “Unicorn Blood.”

Where to Drink: The sports bar Cleos is “Chicago’s #1Location for International Soccer,” and offers brick oven pizza and over 50 local and specialty beers. Juko Nail & Skin Rescue is a BYOB nail salon with $15 manicures and organic nail polish options. Barley & Brass, a newly opened cocktail bar and restaurant that lives up to its hype, offers kegged cocktails, small plates, and craft beers.

Where to End the Night: Roots Handmade Pizza is open until 3am on weekends (2am on weekdays) and serves malt crust pizza and beers exclusively from the Midwest (including a house brew from Two Brothers Brewing Company). The Empty Bottle is a great spot for dancing; on Saturdays the venue frequently hosts a soul music dance party called “Windy City Soul Club” until 3am.
