The week of November 8, the Department of Economics of the University of Chicago was host to many of the world's preeminent economists (some even traveling from as far as Social Sciences and Rosenwald) who gathered together to honor Milton Friedman on his ninetieth birthday. University President Don Randel called it a "celebration of an extraordinary man, and an extraordinary department."

On Wednesday Nov 20th the GSB welcomed Eileen Sweeney, CEO of Inkindex as part of a speaker series organized by the student group Net Impact. Eileen Sweeney founded the Chicago-based Inkindex in July 2000. It was while working at the United Airlines Foundation that she saw a need for a mediator between corporations, who wanted to donate their surplus inventory, and nonprofits, who were always looking for products.

For 70 first year GSB students, Saturday 23rd November marked the culmination of over eight weeks of hard work and effort. The event? The 2002 LEAD All Stars Challenge. Seven select members from each cohort, chosen as a result of their active LEAD class participation, contribution and consummate application of LEAD skills, represented their classmates in an inter-cohort challenge at the Gleacher Center.
