Despite having spent two quarters on the campus, I was not aware of the existence of a professional theatre in Hyde Park till very recently. A Divinity school student literally dragged me to the Court Theatre thinking that I am losing my sanity juggling recruiting and mid-terms. Court Theatre is the professional theatre at the University (located on Ellis and 55th across the new sports complex) and its latest offering is an adaptation of Broadway classic Guys and Dolls. The show will run till March 28.
My favorite going-out thing to do (besides, of course, TNDC) is to see live music in a dirty little club. I'm not talking about concerts as much as shows-and there is a big difference. I flinch when the ticket prices are more than $12 (don't get me started about Ticketmaster) and I philosophically dislike any place that does not offer a beverage option priced under $3.50.
While I am neither Christian, nor religious for that matter, I attended a Catholic school for thirteen years. I mention this because I do not think I could comment on a religious movie without providing some context. It is also important to judge separately the religious and artistic merits of the genre's products, and I will attempt to do so while opining on Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ.
If you auditioned for Follies (or "the big show" as I like to call it), you probably saw me, considering that I was at about eleven-and-a-half of the twelve hours of auditions we held last week. If the auditions are at all representative of the talent we have at this school, the big show will be great this spring.
This column is for entertainment purposes only. Aries (March 20 to April 19) The work just seems never-ending! It's tough, but you enjoy the challenges. In the midst of all this madness though, remember why you are doing all this. If you really enjoy what you do, then you are truly fortunate - you will achieve great success. But if you want to win solely for the sake of winning, be sure to watch your back.
The other day I was talking to a friend about Anna Nicole Smith (who's making a little comeback of her own by losing about 500 pounds, but unfortunately not her personality). I mentioned that whenever I saw Anna's reality show on TV, it made me sick.
