I use Orkut and occasionally LinkedIn. However, I am satisfied with neither. In India, neither MySpace nor Facebook is very popular, so I have explored only the surface of those. It is possible that some of my comments/critiques are invalid just because I am unaware of what already exists.
Based on the new additions of "art" to the C-level at the HC, I decided to speak out a bit. Before I went spouting off at the mouth, I had my illustrious co-writer Ms. Teague give me the nickel tour of the HC's "art." What did I find? Well, I found that she knows some really big art words that make her look really smart; that I actually don't hate everything; and that I apparently have pretty strong opinions about what we have hanging on our walls (I know it may be difficult for those that know me to think that I would have strong opinions).
Foreseeing the next wave will enable us to position our companies for the future. At the beginning of the last century, companies were vertically integrated, producing their final products from raw material and selling those products in the market by themselves.
I came to the GSB with energy on the brain - specifically, new energy technology - and I've been delighted to find that I'm not alone here. In fact, there is a robust dialogue on alternative energy at the GSB. I've met many people who share my career interests and my concerns about peak oil and climate change.
"The toes you step on today may be connected to the ass you'll have to kiss tomorrow." - Andy Walcher, '09 "Be respectful to people throughout the phases in your lifeā¦Of your classmates, subordinates, superiors, friends, administrative assistants, and janitors, you can never really know who can help or hurt you.
Greetings and before we get started, happy belated Veterans Day to the GSBers who have served or are serving your respective country's armed forces. Columns like this one are not possible without your sacrifices. Thank you. Well, political activity on this side of the globe has been rather tame in comparison to other places across the planet like the Pakistani clamp-down (not a dance) in Islamabad and the recent agreement between Iran and Pakistan for a cross border natural gas pipeline to the sea.
I went on a little art tour of the Harper Center (HC) with Canice Prendergast, the GSB prof who heads up the committee that selects the artwork at HC. Prendergast talked about why they chose particular art, how the process worked, and what type of artwork they continue to seek for HC.
I landed in Siem Reap after sunset and the darkness of the jungle struck me immediately. There were no lights outside the airport area and I could tell that I was at someplace very remote. In contrast, the airport blinded me with the lights of modernity, people flowing through the immigration lines with "e-visas" they had acquired over the Internet.
It seems as though business school has brought many of us back to our undergraduate days and in some cases, high school days. In doing so it's easy to get caught up in this fanfare but we cannot forget the meaning of one simple word - respect. As such, we would like to remind our student body of behavior that is considered disrespectful to others.
