I miss the community the most(on (Investment Banking with Greenhill & Co.)). It was nice to share my journey with people who were also discovering the next phase of their lives. We were like-minded people- ambitious to make a mark on the world (of business). We were encouraged to reach our true potentials and it was invigorating. That was the one time when everyone was working towards a common goal and was in it together. I miss that!
I have been with my girlfriend for 12 years and we got engaged last October. We have known each other since high school. I had a long distance relationship during undergrad and then throughout our jobs. We both have competitive careers and we met when we were very young. I have changed as a person since then and so has she. Also, relationships are not deterministic in nature like other things. I can practice well and ace an interview but I can’t practice to make the relationship work. I believe that making it work despite the distance and age, has been my biggest success so far.
I used to play baseball with a kid in Hong Kong and one day I hit him hard in the head with a fast throw. It was a mistake but it scared him so much that he quit the game. Eight years later, I asked a friend in my military unit for a game of baseball. He mentioned that he had a fear of the game after being hit on the head (when he was younger). We exchanged details, only to realize that I was the reason for his fear. We are best friends now, but to think, what were the odds of me meeting him again?
